Blues is called heart of Jazz. Musical genre defined by a sad vocal (blue) and straight lyrics, mainly related to basic problems of human life — such as love and sex, poverty and death. Sometimes it can go from total desperation to satire and joy. Basign his songs to traditional blues, W. C. Handy increased a lot the popularity of this genre.
